Role Overview

The Foundations Architect designs and ensures the coherence of the entire intelligence system: how data flows, how models (Anthropic, OpenAI, Mistral, Google Gemini, etc.) integrate, how agents are technically orchestrated, and how everything holds at scale. Their architectural choices define what the Forward Deployed Engineer can deploy for clients and what the AI Engineer can build daily. They rely on the Data Engineer for the data that feeds these systems, work with the Software Engineer on application integration, and align their choices with the Data Trust & AI Governance Manager for governance and the Service Delivery Manager for operations; the Business Value Advisor ensures everything remains aligned with business value.

What Awaits You

• Design the architecture of intelligence systems: data flow, integration of models (Anthropic, OpenAI, Mistral, Google Gemini, etc.), technical orchestration of agents.
• Define constraints and possibilities for the Forward Deployed Engineer, upstream and in mission support.
• Ensure scalability, resilience, and security of what is deployed, not just its feasibility in demonstration.
• Collaborate with the AI Engineer on the concrete execution of the architectures you design, and with the Software Engineer on their application integration.
• Arbitrate routing/cascading choices between models (Anthropic, OpenAI, Mistral, Google Gemini, etc.), tiering, and inference cost (AI FinOps), to keep technical performance economically sustainable.
• Set technical standards and documentation that allow others to take over and evolve what you have built.

Experience and Background

• More than 8 years of experience in designing and implementing complex technical architectures (data, cloud, distributed systems), regardless of your starting point: ESN, software publisher, startup, or final client side DSI.
• Proven practice of deploying systems at scale, not just designing them on paper.
• Practice in security and access governance issues in production environments.

Mindset and Know-How

• Ability to think systemically before thinking technologically: see the whole before choosing a tool.
• Rigor and technical requirement, without losing sight that architecture serves client deployment, not elegance for its own sake.
• Ease in working in support of the Forward Deployed Engineer and AI Engineer, in an architectural role that guarantees system solidity for the client: you are also capable of being in client-facing roles when the stakes require it, not just in back-end technical support.
• Ability to produce, document, and transmit, so that your architectural choices last beyond your presence on the mission.

Essential Technical Skills

• Design of intelligence system architectures: data flow, integration of models (Anthropic, OpenAI, Mistral, Google Gemini, etc.), technical orchestration of agents.
• Design of modern data platforms (lakehouse, data mesh, data fabric) and enterprise AI platforms (Palantir Foundry / AIP, or equivalent).
• Implementation of data infrastructures and MLOps practices.
• Design of event-driven architectures and large-scale streaming systems (Kafka).
• Design of feature stores and model serving infrastructures.
• Securing systems and access governance.
• Integration of LLMs (Anthropic, OpenAI, Mistral, Google Gemini, etc.) and vector databases.
• Implementation of observability and monitoring for distributed systems.
• Deployment on the cloud (Azure, GCP, or AWS) and infrastructure as code management (Terraform).
• Comparative mastery of models and their providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Mistral, Google Gemini, etc.): performance, cost, latency, specifics, to arbitrate routing and tiering choices.
• Arbitration of inference cost and routing choices between models (Anthropic, OpenAI, Mistral, Google Gemini, etc.), under AI FinOps: model routing/cascading, tiering, RAG vs long context.
• Proven writing of technical architecture dossiers and documentation for other teams.
• Fluent English, both written and spoken, essential regardless of experience level.
