About the Position

AI Security Researcher

Join Opera's Security Team as an AI Security Researcher to uncover vulnerabilities and improve the security of next-generation AI-powered products.

Opera is looking for curious and hands-on AI Security Researchers to help uncover vulnerabilities and improve the security of next-generation AI-powered products.

As part of Opera's Security Team, you will perform offensive security research against agentic AI systems, browsers, and emerging technologies. You will work closely with senior researchers, engineers, and product teams to identify risks, develop testing methodologies, and strengthen the security of Opera's AI ecosystem.

This role is ideal for security researchers, bug bounty hunters, red teamers, and offensive security practitioners who are passionate about AI and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct security research against AI-powered applications, agentic systems, browsers, and emerging technologies
  • Investigate prompt injection, tool abuse, agent manipulation, data leakage, and other AI-specific attack vectors
  • Develop proof-of-concepts, testing frameworks, and research tooling to assess AI security risks
  • Perform penetration testing, security assessments, and architecture reviews of AI-powered products
  • Produce clear technical documentation, vulnerability reports, and reproducible research artifacts
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to help remediate findings and improve product security
  • Monitor developments in AI security, adversarial machine learning, and offensive security research
  • Contribute to open-source projects and security community initiatives

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in offensive security, penetration testing, vulnerability research, bug bounty programs, or red teaming
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and responsibly disclose security vulnerabilities
  • Experience assessing AI systems, LLM applications, agentic frameworks, or related technologies
  • Strong programming skills with the ability to build tooling and automate testing workflows
  • Familiarity with prompt injection, AI abuse scenarios, model security, and emerging AI attack techniques
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate independently
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to document technical findings clearly

Nice to Have

  • Bug bounty achievements, CTF participation, or public security research
  • Experience with AI red teaming or adversarial testing
  • Open-source contributions related to security or AI
  • Familiarity with MCP, agent frameworks, vector databases, and modern AI application architectures
  • Security certifications or relevant academic background in cybersecurity, computer science, or related fields
