Apprentice (2027 Class)
Job description
About the Position
Apprentice (2027 Class)
Join GROB's apprenticeship program to learn an in-demand trade, earn a debt-free college degree, and start your career in advanced manufacturing. No prior experience in manufacturing is required!
The Program
The GROB apprenticeship program offers a unique opportunity to learn a valuable trade, earn a college degree, and begin your career at a world-class machine tool manufacturer-all while being paid. The program combines GROB's in-house training with college classes to prepare you to become a highly-skilled mechanical or electrical technician in just two years.
Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology
The Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology Program at Rhodes State College provides students with the skills to maintain integrated manufacturing systems. The curriculum covers a mechatronics approach to maintaining and troubleshooting highly-automated, complex manufacturing systems, including programmable logic controllers, robots, drives, sensors, and more.
Your Apprenticeship Journey
The apprenticeship is a 4-year commitment, consisting of 2 years of technical training and 2 years of workforce placement.
Year 1
- Basic Training: The first 12 weeks are dedicated to determining your path (mechanical or electrical).
- Technical Skills Development: Spend the first year in the Apprenticeship Training Area, developing your technical skills through hands-on projects and classroom curriculum taught by GROB Training Instructors.
Year 2
- Department Rotation: Rotate through various departments at GROB, working and learning alongside experienced employees.
- Skill Acquisition: Learn the skills needed to succeed in each department.
- Interest Discovery: Discover which areas interest you the most to help find your ideal department placement.
Year 3 & 4
- Workforce Placement: After graduating from Rhodes State College, you will be placed into a specific department within GROB's regular workforce.
- On-the-Job Training: Continue to accrue on-the-job training hours, which go towards your state-recognized Journeyperson's card.
- Certification: In Year 4, you will receive your Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship issued by the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Labor. This journeyperson card will certify you as an Industrial Machinist System Technician.
Career Pathways
GROB offers two apprenticeship pathways: mechanical and electrical. All apprentices earn an Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology degree from Rhodes, but their in-house training at GROB is what sets the two pathways apart.
