About the Position

Associate Engineer - Electrical

Black & Veatch Corporation, Coral Gables, FL

As an Associate Electrical Engineer, you will support Utility-Scale Solar Proposals/Projects. You will perform detailed calculations using Excel according to national electric codes and other industry standards to accurately design solar projects. You will complete technical equipment specifications for large-scale solar projects and review customer requirements, providing technical inputs towards design decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed calculations using Excel according to national electric codes and industry standards.
  • Design solar projects with technical specifications.
  • Review customer requirements and provide technical inputs towards design decisions.
  • Perform engineering functions requiring knowledge and experience in engineering principles.
  • Prepare and verify engineering deliverables.
  • Perform research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work.
  • Prepare complex engineering calculations such as load flow, short circuit analysis, Arc Flash Analysis, Cable Ampacity study, grounding analysis, AC-DC voltage drop calculations, Voc/Isc calcs, AC/DC Cable Sizing, and thermal and power system analysis.
  • Understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with project leadership to share information and gain guidance with respect to details of design and interdisciplinary coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related.
  • 1 year of related work experience.
  • Experience with interpreting and applying electrical design criteria under established engineering procedures.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications including Word and Excel.
  • Experience with Electrical Solar equipment including Solar panels, Pad mounted transformer, Main power transformer, inverter, battery chargers, disconnect switches, surge arrestors, medium voltage cable, low voltage cable, and fiber optic cable.
  • Up to 10% national travel.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills in English.
