Responsibilities

The Associate Legal Officer supports the work of the Office of Legal Affairs by providing general legal support and advice to OSCE field operations and institutions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research and analysis of legal issues relating to the functions, structure, and activities of the Organization.
  • Preparing drafts on legal issues and providing preliminary interpretation of legal instruments.
  • Giving legal advice on issues of limited scope.
  • Providing secretariat services to various committees and bodies by preparing background materials, reports, papers, and other documents.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • First-level university degree in law with specialization in public international law.
  • A minimum of four years (two years with a second-level university degree) of professional-level experience, including a minimum of two years with a governmental organization or international organization.
  • Professional fluency in English with excellent communication skills.
  • Good command of German and/or Russian is desirable.
  • Demonstrated research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a member of a team with people of different cultural, religious backgrounds, gender, and political views.
  • Computer literate with practical experience using Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), internet.
