Job description
About the Position
Bring your ideas to life at Boeing. We are committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful, and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Join us as an Associate Systems Engineer in our Phantom Works Missile Defense National Teams in Huntsville, AL.
Responsibilities
Depending on your assignment, you will contribute across mission assessment, architecture, requirements, Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE), integration, and test – often with direct collaboration across Boeing, industry partners, and government stakeholders.
Systems Architecture, Requirements, and Interfaces
- Help define and evolve the MDA/C2BMC system architecture.
- Develop and maintain requirements and architecture artifacts (including interface definitions) to support missile defense capabilities.
- Run and support architecture and requirements trade studies to recommend options that improve mission performance, cost/schedule, and technical feasibility.
- Own and improve the requirements management engine: planning, organizing, implementing, and monitoring of requirements processes and tools (including traceability, change control, and quality).
- Support program-level risks/issues/opportunities tracking and technology readiness assessments as they relate to architecture and requirements decisions.
- Collaborate frequently with MDA, warfighters, and industry partners to align requirements, interfaces, and system priorities.
Systems Integration, Verification, & Validation
- Plan and execute integration and checkout work – define tasks, schedule them, assign work, monitor completion, and keep the integration plan moving.
- Evaluate results from integration/checkout activities and determine whether they meet checkout requirements so the team can proceed to the next stage.
- Help define and drive the overall integration and test (I&T) strategy (processes, tools, and metrics) to ensure we verify requirements effectively and consistently.
- Execute and document integration and test events, including capturing results, issues, and evidence needed for verification.
- Partner with integration/test SMEs to solve complex system problems spanning process, tools, regulations, and system-specific issues.
- Identify and implement tool/process improvements that reduce friction and increase throughput (automation, reporting, repeatable workflows).
Modeling and Simulation
- Evaluate system performance across realistic scenarios and architectures to provide mission insight used by MDA and warfighters.
- Build and maintain analysis tools across multiple levels of fidelity, including modeling and simulation that predicts performance against evolving threats.
- Perform system and performance trade studies (mission effectiveness, architecture comparisons, “what-if” analyses) to inform technical decisions.
- Develop and improve modeling approaches to ensure results are credible, repeatable, and decision-useful (assumptions, data handling, validation/verification of models).
- Use modeling, simulation, and quantitative methods to provide technical leadership and recommendations in assigned focus areas.
Requirements
-
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
- 2 or more years' related engineering experience.
- Prior experience in system engineering (e.g. Systems, Design, Architecture, Integration, Requirements or Test).
-
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
- Familiarity with missile-defense mission context, especially command & control, battle managements, and communications.
- Experience with requirements analysis & verification.
- Experience with requirements and architecture development for complex systems/system-of-systems.
- Experience using MBSE / requirements tools such as Cameo, DOORS, or similar.
- Experience supporting architecture / requirements trade studies.
- Experience driving or support integration and test, including executing and documenting test events.
- Experience developing or tailoring I&T processes, tools, and metrics.
- Experience evaluating results against requirements.
- Familiarity working across multiple stakeholders/teams.
- Scripting/programming for test/tool support (Python, MATLAB, Java, or similar).
- Experience performing system/performance analysis or trade studies (e.g., operational/feasibility analysis, MOEs/TPMs).
- Experience developing or using modeling and simulation tools to predict performance.
- Familiarity modeling engagement domains (missile defense or related air/space/ballistic domains).
- Scripting/programming for analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, Java, or similar).
- Ability to communicate results clearly to support decisions with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
We Offer
- Competitive salary range: $91,800 - $124,200.
- Relocation assistance based on eligibility.
- Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement savings plans, and more.
- Opportunities for professional development and growth.
