About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated Autism Wing Self-Contained Teacher to provide specialized academic instruction to students with autism in a self-contained classroom setting in Toledo, OH.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of each student in the classroom.
  • Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, including but not limited to reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
  • Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies and instructional materials appropriate for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters social-emotional growth, communication skills, and independence.
  • Collaborate with related service providers, such as speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and behavior specialists, to address students' diverse needs.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly to ensure continuous growth and development.
  • Establish and maintain regular communication with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on individualized interventions.
  • Provide guidance and support to the full-time paraprofessional to facilitate effective classroom management and implementation of instructional activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
  • Proven experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in a special education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices and instructional strategies for teaching students with autism.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with individuals with special needs.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Previous experience supervising or collaborating with paraprofessionals preferred.
