Job description
About the Position
Bachelor-/Masterarbeit: Physical AI (m/w/d)
Iggingen | Bachelor-/Masterarbeit | 3–6 Monate
Responsibilities
- State of the Art: Research on Vision-Language-Action models, Grasp Detection, and Few-Shot Learning approaches, and evaluation for our use case
- Conception: Development of a concept for camera-based workpiece recognition and gripping point determination, aligned with our machine loading
- Prototyping: Building a functional prototype on our 6-axis test robot
- Teach-in Function: Implementation of a teach-in function to add new, but similar workpieces without programming effort
- Integration: Connecting camera/sensorics and AI model to the robot control (e.g., via manufacturer SDK or ROS2)
- Test & Evaluation: Systematic tests on gripping success rate, learning time, and the limits of the approach
- Documentation: Scientific documentation of the results for your thesis and our internal knowledge base
- Contact Person: Close collaboration with our AI Officer and the robotics colleagues from the project team
Requirements
Education & Study Status
- Degree: Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program related to AI/Robotics (e.g., Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mechatronics, Robotics)
- Thesis Status: Looking for a topic for your thesis, ideally with an interest in practical implementation rather than pure theory
Technical Skills
- Programming: Proficient in Python
- Machine Learning: Basic understanding of Computer Vision and/or Machine Learning models (Vision-Language-Action models advantageous, but not mandatory)
- Robotics: Initial experience with robot control or ROS/ROS2 is advantageous, but not a requirement
Personal Skills & Framework
- Work Style: Independent, structured, experimental
- Curiosity: Eagerness to delve into a rapidly evolving research field
- Language Skills: Good German skills, English required for technical literature
Framework
- Type: Bachelor's or Master's thesis, scope to be agreed upon with your university
- Location: Iggingen
- Duration: According to your university's examination regulations (usually 3–6 months)
Why Join VKE?
- Real Prototype Instead of Simulation: Work on an actual 6-axis robot, not just in theory
- Close Supervision: Personal guidance from our AI Officer and experienced robotics colleagues
- Insight into SME: Special machine construction up close, short decision-making paths in a team of about 40 people
- Perspective: Option for a work-study job or permanent employment after the thesis
- Compensation: Fair compensation during the thesis
