Backend Engineer - Supply Tech (all genders)

About the Position

We are looking for a Backend Engineer for Supply Tech to join our team in Hamburg or Berlin. You will be part of our Purchasing Interface Team, which is the main system for the operational processes of our teams in purchasing, procurement, private labels, and photo studio.

Responsibilities

• Build high-frequency web applications with PHP (Laravel)
• Develop internal and external RESTful APIs and background jobs (peak times: > 1 million jobs per hour)
• Collaborate with the Lead Engineer on application architecture decisions and explore new technologies
• Lead the technical design of features that support a redesigned business process
• Take full responsibility for the features you develop – from the first code commit to smooth operation in production
• Ensure their stability, performance, and long-term maintainability
• Confidently deploy your code to our hosting platform (AWS Elastic Container Service) multiple times a day thanks to our CI/CD pipeline (Gitlab)
• Monitor applications with industry-standard tools (Datadog, Sentry) via dashboards & alerting
• Learn from other developers in a highly skilled team and present your ideas in our regular Tech Talks
• Become part of a pragmatic, agile team that values delivering quality code more than full SCRUM ceremonial

Requirements

• Excellent programming skills in PHP 8 (Laravel)
• Experience in the design and implementation of E2E, integration, and unit tests
• Expertise in the design, security, and scaling of RESTful APIs
• Experience with AWS, Git, Valkey, or similar
• Practical experience in relational database design and performance optimization (e.g., MySQL 8)
• Passion for writing well-structured, efficient, and maintainable code while actively keeping an eye on the quality of the codebase
• Willingness to work in an English-speaking environment

Nice to Have

• Experience with SQS, ECS Fargate
• Experience with YII 1.1
