About the Position

Backend Intern

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of new features and improvements for TicketSwap’s backend and API.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers, Designers, and Product Managers to bring ideas to life.
  • Work with modern software design concepts such as domain-driven design or event sourcing.
  • Learn to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code with guidance from our experienced engineers.
  • Help test, debug, and optimize high traffic APIs that serve mobile and web clients, and integrate with third-party tools.
  • Participate in code reviews, stand-ups, and team meetings to understand how a professional engineering team operates.
  • Contribute ideas for improving maintainability and performance.
  • Explore opportunities to automate and optimize backend workflows.
  • Keep an eye on the latest backend trends and best practices and share what you learn with the team.
  • Attend our Discovery Days sessions every quarter.

Requirements

About You

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Interested in doing a “meewerk” internship.
  • Some experience in backend development, preferably in PHP and relational databases (such as MySQL).
  • A genuine interest in backend development and building well-tested, clean software.
  • Enjoy solving problems and learning new technologies.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative and international environment.
  • Based in or near Amsterdam, and excited to work from our city-center office.
  • Available as an intern from September '26, for 32-40 hours a week for at least 5 months.
  • You have a portfolio website where you can showcase some of your side projects and/or school projects.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with GraphQL, SQL, NoSQL, and modern web development practices.
