About the Position
Biomedical Research Internship
Location: Leuven, Belgium
Type: Internship
Work Mode: Hybrid
Materialise, a 3D printing and medical software company, is seeking a student for a 3-5 month internship focused on developing intelligent algorithms for complex fracture reconstruction. You will join the medical software research team as a Research Engineer in our Leuven office.
Responsibilities
- Implement puzzle-solving methods to realign fragments into a patient-specific anatomical template
- Use statistical shape models and/or AI techniques for reconstructing premorbid anatomy
- Test, evaluate, and optimize algorithm performance using real clinical data
- Document your progress and present results to the research team and stakeholders
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in computer science, AI, data science, mathematics, statistics, physics, biomedical engineering, or another equivalent technical field
- Experience with Python programming (including libraries such as Numpy, Scikit-learn, and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow)
- Background in 3D geometry processing
- Understanding of statistical shape modeling or machine learning techniques for shape reconstruction is a strong plus
- Experience with algorithms for 3D reconstruction, object matching, or pattern recognition
- Working proficiency in English
