About the Position

Business Intelligence Engineer

We are seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer with advanced SQL skills to join our remote team, focusing on data modeling and BI tool usage.

Responsibilities

  • You should be committed to delivering fast, delivering quality, and possess a passion for data and the value it can bring.
  • You will work with BI and the wider business to translate business requirements into solutions (Data Modelling + LookML + Looks + Dashboard) to deliver business insights, trends, and analysis through Looker and supporting platforms in a visually compelling way.
  • Ensure the deployment of updates/enhancements through to the Looker production environment is in line with our deployment workflow standards and procedures.
  • Create and enhance documentation as solutions require, e.g., high-level design specifications, business glossary updates, data model architecture updates, etc.
  • Work with the Product team to ensure there is a clear understanding of requirements and deliverables as part of any new feature requests.
  • Work as a member of the BI scrum team to ensure there is clarity and alignment to current and future work items, providing the necessary input into user stories as required, estimating user stories, engaging in all scrum-related ceremonies.
  • Support the maintenance of legacy reporting (SQL Server & SharePoint) and all activities attaching to the migration of these reports onto the Looker platform.

Requirements

  • A degree in a relevant field, e.g., Information Systems (Business or Computing).
  • Good knowledge of databases and T-SQL or query-writing skills, e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, or similar.
  • Knowledge of query optimization and performance tuning.
  • Exposure to BI tools, such as Looker, Microsoft (SSIS, SSRS, SharePoint), Tableau, Qlikview, or Excel BI tools (PowerPivot/Power BI).
  • Understanding complex business problems and translating those to simple-to-use BI solutions/reports.
  • Understanding of what can be improved through better data and analysis.
  • An understanding of dimensional data models, using methodology such as Kimball, would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of eCommerce or Supply Chain would be also an advantage.
