Chief Research Specialist

Sieć Badawcza Łukasiewicz – Krakowski Instytut Technologiczny is a member of the Łukasiewicz Research Network, one of the largest scientific networks in Europe, which provides companies with attractive, complete and competitive technologies combining science and business. The Institute conducts scientific research, development and implementation studies, develops prototype tools and other devices, as well as provides research and technological services. The recipients of our solutions are, among others, representatives of the foundry, tooling, aerospace, medical and energy industries.

Responsibilities

1. Support an integrated PVD coating system equipped with Pulsed-DC Magnetron Sputtering system.
2. Operation of equipment used to prepare substrates for the application of PVD coatings, e.g.: sandblaster, ultrasonic cleaner, etc.
3. Conducting tribological research, among others: ball-on-disc / pin-on-disc / reciprocating movement; dry/liquid/up to 1000°C.
4. Operating an optical microscope equipped with a digital camera.
5. Participation in the implementation of research and experimental studies as well as commercial orders.
6. Participation in the conduct of work aimed at the practical use of research results and participation in their implementation.
7. Operating the entrusted equipment, systematic care of laboratory equipment.
8. Preparation of project proposals in calls announced by various agencies financing R+D projects (e.g. Polish financing agencies: NCN, NCBR, FNP), UE calls.

Requirements

• Education: PhD degree (preferred courses: materials engineering, mechanics and mechanical engineering or related) and at least 2 years of experience in the R+D sector.
• Specialization: Machining or related.
• Experience: Experience in the implementation of R+D projects as a contractor (including at least 1 project financed from external national or foreign funds).
• Knowledge: Experience in conducting tribological tests (e.g. ball-on-disc, pin-on-disc, scratch test) and knowledge of friction, wear and lubrication.
• PVD Systems: Knowledge of vacuum systems and devices for coating using PVD methods, in particular magnetron sputtering.
• Preparation: Knowledge of the principles of preparing substrates for coating (cleaning, ion etching, surface activation).
• Research Skills: Ability to plan and implement research experiments, including analyses and interpretations of results, as well as the development of technical reports, manuscripts and research documentation.
• Characterization: Knowledge of basic techniques for characterization of coatings and top layers (e.g. thickness, adhesion, hardness, SEM/EDS, AFM, XRD).
• Language: Very good knowledge of spoken and written English (reading technical documentation, scientific publications).
• Publications: Publication achievements (at least 3 publications on the TOP 10% SCOPUS list) or experience in preparing scientific/technical articles.
• Attributes: Independence, accuracy and responsibility in the implementation of the tasks entrusted to them.

Nice to Have

• Experience with industrial or laboratory PVD systems (DC/Pulsed-DC/HiPIMS).
• Experience in cooperation with industrial sector in the field of implementation of research results, e.g. active participation in commercialization projects.
• Ability to work in a team and cooperate with other departments.
• Knowledge of health and safety (H&S) rules when working with vacuum and high voltage systems.
