About the Position

Concept Outsource Lead

At Epic Games, we are looking for a talented and experienced Concept Outsource Lead to join our team. This role is integral in managing and supervising creative content provided by external partners as part of our collaboration with Disney. The ideal candidate will have a solid hands-on art background, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external teams.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Epic Art Leads, project Art Director, Outsource Manager(s), and artists to support external vendors.
• Communicate the direction vision to vendors and ensure the art generated is consistent in tone and meets Epic's high standards.
• Create various concept designs for environments, characters, and FX within the Fortnite ecosystem.
• Collect or generate detailed documentation, video reference, and examples of art asset production to support external vendors.
• Make any needed fixes to keep assets consistent and technically game-ready as they’re handed off from the outsource partner.
• Clearly communicate feedback to the outsource partner and ensure that creative notes and goals are met. Inform leadership if issues arise.
• Collaborate with internal Epic art staff to ensure that outsource concept art is clear and respects limitations from other disciplines.

Requirements

• Portfolio: Demonstrate a range of styles, creativity, and craftsmanship in developing a broad range of visual development. The work should show strong creativity, aesthetics, and stylization with the ability to create strong world-building visuals.
• Skills: A keen eye for anatomy, architecture, color theory, composition, and FX with an understanding of how the art translates downstream to production groups.
• Experience: Worked on at least one AAA game in a Senior Concept Artist role.
• Communication: An effective communicator, collaborator, and problem solver able to coordinate between internal and external teams and deliver clear and concise feedback.
• Organization: Excellent organizational skills and ability to accurately estimate tasks and maintain schedules.
• Knowledge: Understanding of other game art disciplines, their workflows, and limitations (animation, character, environment, VFX).
• Teamwork: Experienced working within a team and a high-pressure production environment.

Nice to Have

• Language: Fluency in a language other than English, including Chinese, German, Spanish, Italian, or Russian.
