Consultant·e ou cabinet en conformité produits électriques – Mise sur le marché français

Paris (FR)

Octopus Energy Services France 🇫🇷 – Product Support & Sales / Consultant / Hybrid

Context

In ten years, Octopus Energy has grown its customer base to soon provide over a million households in France and 15 million in Europe. Our ambition goes far beyond energy supply: we aim to support each customer in the electrification of their uses, for both economic and ecological reasons.

To this end, the group also manufactures its own equipment, primarily for residential use:

  • A heat pump, the Cosy range, manufactured in Northern Ireland;
  • A battery storage system, the Nook range, and an electric vehicle charging station, Octopus Charge, partially manufactured with a partner in Asia.

These products are already sold in the UK, where they are certified. We now want to market them in France. Therefore, they need to be certified and adapted to French and European rules and standards (as the UK now has slightly different standards).

The Mission

You are our regulatory expert for the French market launch. Your objective: to make our products compliant and therefore marketable in France. You will tell us what needs to be done, in what order, with which laboratories or bodies, and at what cost, and then accompany us until we obtain the certifications.

This is a consulting mission: you will not design or test. You will guide our product and engineering teams, which are in the UK, from the initial assessment to the launch.

Responsibilities

  1. Define roles within the European Union. Our products are manufactured outside the EU. You will determine who bears the obligations of the manufacturer, importer, and representative, and what must appear on the product, packaging, and documents. This is the first issue to be addressed.

  2. Map what applies in France. For each product, you will establish the list of applicable texts and standards at the European and French levels, including what goes beyond the CE marking. You will determine the precise standards for each product. Topics to cover:

    • CE marking: low voltage, electromagnetic compatibility, radio (RED), RoHS;
    • Eco-design and energy labeling;
    • Refrigerants: F-gas regulation and safety of flammable fluids like R290;
    • Batteries: European battery regulation, transport, end-of-life;
    • Cybersecurity: RED directive requirements and Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) regulation;
    • French rules: NF C 15-100 installation standards and UTE guides, Enedis connection, IRVE rules for charging stations;
    • Instructions, warnings, and labeling in French;
    • Environment: REACH, WEEE, batteries and accumulators, packaging, AGEC law, and eco-organizations;
    • Eligibility for aid and energy-saving certificates (CEE): what the product must prove for our customers to be entitled.
  3. Build the certification roadmap. Certifications to obtain, tests to perform, notified laboratories and bodies to contact, deadlines, estimated budget, order of operations, risks that block the launch date.

  4. Guide the documentation. You will guide the creation of the technical file, EU declaration of conformity, instructions, and labels, on physical and digital media. You will review the French versions before publication.

  5. Accompany until certification is obtained and prepare for the future. You will follow the file with our teams and laboratories, alert us to regulatory changes, and prepare for the transition to other European countries (Germany, Italy, Spain) without launching in this mission.

What We Are Looking For

Immediate need: a person who masters French regulations. Knowledge of British regulations is a plus.

  • Degree in electrical or electronic engineering, or equivalent experience;
  • In-depth knowledge of French and European regulations applicable to electrical and heating products, with practical experience in market launches in France;
  • Mastery of electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, radio, and the environment;
  • Experience working with testing laboratories and notified bodies;
  • Fluent French and professional English: our teams work in English;
  • Ability to transform a regulatory point into a clear instruction for engineers: what needs to be done, by when, and what risk if it is not done.

We are not necessarily looking for a single expert on electricity, batteries, and heat pumps. You can apply on one of these areas only, or propose a duo or several contributors.

Conditions

We are not looking for a permanent contract, we want a consultant or a company's service!

Mission lasting a few months, for about a few days/week. Remote work. An in-person meeting may take place at the beginning of the mission, if necessary, in Paris or at one of our other offices.

Rate: per day, to be discussed according to the format of the service.

-> You can attach a brochure, a presentation, or any other useful document instead of the space provided for CVs. A version in English is highly appreciated/recommended!

Process

After reviewing the proposals

  1. First contact with Victor, our Talent Acquisition, to present Octopus Energy
  2. Exchange in English with Derya, in charge of recruitment

Where necessary, we sometimes use AI tools to help with parts of our hiring process, like reviewing applications or assessing responses.

We’re lucky to receive a huge amount of interest, so these tools help our recruiters manage that volume, not replace them. Ultimately, every hiring decision (for example, whether to progress your application or not) is always made by a real person in our Talent team.
