About the Position

Contractor, Senior Application Engineer

ING Bank is seeking a Senior Application Engineer with strong Java development skills and Linux/Unix expertise to join our team in New York, NY. This role requires a hands-on engineer to work closely with business stakeholders, architecture teams, infrastructure teams, and fellow engineers to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and implement enhancements for regional business applications.
• Provide 2nd line production support for business-critical applications, including incident troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
• Develop and maintain relevant services, APIs, and integrations.
• Support applications and perform operational troubleshooting.
• Create, enhance, and/or maintain relevant scripts/programs to automate operational and support activities.
• Analyze application logs, system metrics, and monitor data to proactively identify issues and improve platform stability.
• Participate in software deployments, release activities, and change management processes.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, database, cybersecurity, and business teams to deliver solutions and/or resolve production issues.
• Implement application improvements to enhance performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
• Ensure adherence to engineering standards, secure coding practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge sharing within the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience developing and supporting enterprise applications.

• Java (Spring/Spring Boot preferred)
• Apache Tomcat
• SQL and database development
• PowerShell and automation scripting
• Linux (RHEL)/Unix environments, including Bash/Shell scripting
• Application support & production troubleshooting

• REST APIs
• IBM MQ / Enterprise Messaging
• Azure DevOps / CI-CD pipelines
• SWIFT messaging
• DTCC connectivity
• Post-trade processing
• File-based integrations (CSV/XML)
• Authentication technologies (LDAP, Active Directory, SAML/OIDC/Entra ID)

Financial Markets domain experience

• Securities and Trade lifecycle processing
• Regulatory reporting
• Exception management and reconciliation
• Front-office to back-office integration flows
