Job description
About the Position
We are seeking a Control Systems R&D Engineer for UAVs with experience in automatic control theory and practical experience with physical systems. We are primarily looking for a Middle-level engineer, but we will also consider a strong Junior with a solid foundation in automatic control theory and hands-on experience with a physical system. Experience can be commercial, research-based, academic, or from a personal project. Engineers from robotics, mechatronics, electric drive control, industrial automation, or automotive control systems are welcome. Experience with UAVs, autopilots, and C++ is not mandatory at the start. The team will provide context for the platform, autopilot, and integration. We expect independence in working with control models and algorithms.
Responsibilities
- Build and verify dynamic system models.
- Develop and improve control and stabilization algorithms.
- Consider noise, delays, discretization, saturation, and other real-system constraints.
- Analyze simulation results, experiments, and telemetry.
- Integrate algorithms with autopilot and embedded systems engineers into onboard software.
- Participate in SIL/HIL verification, bench tests, and flight trials.
Requirements
- Ability to apply classical automatic control theory and state-space models.
- Knowledge of mechanics, differential equations, and solid body dynamics.
- Personal experience in implementing or significantly tuning at least one control loop on real equipment, including a lab setup.
- Proficiency in Python or MATLAB/Simulink.
- Understanding of the impact of sampling frequency, delays, noise, saturation, and discrepancies between the model and the control object.
- Ability to distinguish control algorithm issues from sensor, delay, actuator, or model problems based on models, telemetry, and experimental results.
- Willingness to learn C++ for integrating algorithms into onboard software.
