Conventional Home Mortgage Underwriter
Location: Irving, Texas
Work Model: Hybrid - On-site
Overview:
Cognizant is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Conventional Underwriter to join our expanding Correspondent Lending channel. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team within a flexible and supportive work environment, with remote work availability and strong leadership support.
Responsibilities
- Independently underwrite conventional mortgage loans in accordance with agency guidelines.
- Proven proficiency in Encompass LOS, including navigation of underwriting screens, condition management, and document review.
- Utilize Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS), including Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Product Advisor (LPA), to assess loan eligibility.
- Analyze complex income scenarios and make sound underwriting decisions.
- Ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality in all underwriting decisions.
- Meet or exceed productivity and quality standards as defined by management.
- Maintain effective communication with internal teams and external partners.
- Participate in video conferencing and remote collaboration.
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Work overtime as needed to meet business demands.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of conventional agency first mortgage underwriting experience.
- Proficiency in DU and LPA automated underwriting systems.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, particularly in evaluating complex income.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
- Comfortable with remote work tools and video conferencing platforms.
