About the Position
Our client is seeking a Data Engineer to support the integration of laboratory instrument data using industry standards from the Allotrope Foundation. In this role, you will be the core technical driver enabling frictionless data flow through automation, data standards, and FAIR principles. The resulting analysis-ready data will be used by analytical chemists and data scientists advancing pharmaceutical research.
Key Responsibilities
- Semantic Modeling & Integration: Build and extend data models using Semantic Web technologies and custom extensions of Allotrope Simple Models (ASM/JSON Schema).
- ETL & Data Pipelines: Design and deploy automated ETL/ELT pipelines to integrate complex laboratory instrument data into graph and document databases.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Leverage AWS serverless architecture and modern DevOps practices to maintain continuous integration and scalable data processing workflows.
- Standards Maintenance: Respond to updates from the Allotrope Foundation and align data architecture with internal cloud and DevOps evolution.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with data science, analytical chemistry, and enterprise engineering teams to build end-to-end data solutions.
Required Experience & Skills (Core Requirements)
- Semantic Web Stack (Primary Focus): Strong experience or formal education in Semantic Web standards and tools (e.g., RDFS/OWL, SPARQL, RDF, R2RML, SKOS).
- Graph & NoSQL Databases: Hands-on experience with graph databases (e.g., Neo4j, Amazon Neptune, GraphDB) and document-oriented databases (e.g., MongoDB).
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): Proficiency in AWS cloud services, particularly serverless and data tools (e.g., AWS Lambda, AWS Glue, Step Functions, S3).
- Programming & ETL: Strong Python skills and solid fundamentals in database query design and ETL pipeline construction.
Desired Experience & Skills
- DevSecOps & CI/CD: Familiarity with version control (Git), containerization (Docker), and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
- Agile Tooling: Experience working with the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence) in an enterprise Agile environment.
- Domain Awareness: Prior exposure to pharmaceutical R&D, laboratory instrument automation, or FAIR data principles is a strong plus.
- Soft Skills: Excellent collaboration abilities, growth mindset, and strong written/verbal communication skills.
