Data Engineer — Orbital Data Pipelines

About the Position

Project-S is hiring a Data Engineer to build the orbital data foundation for our Heat Map, conjunction screening, CDM generation, Pc scoring, and Safety Zone products. This role owns ingestion, normalization, versioning, quality checks, lineage, and storage for TLEs, ephemerides, event data, and future sensor or radar-derived datasets.

Responsibilities

• Build multi-source orbital data ingestion pipelines, starting with TLE sources such as Space-Track and alternate providers.
• Design bronze/silver data lake layouts, partitioning, retention, schema management, and run-id versioning.
• Implement deduplication, validation, provenance tagging, retry logic, throttling, and source availability checks.
• Build ETL and canonicalization jobs for propagation, screening, API, and visualization services.
• Implement data quality rules and lineage tracking to support reproducibility and auditability.
• Support streaming ingestion and low-latency update pipelines for Beta and GA releases.
• Work with astrodynamics and backend teams to ensure the data model supports propagation, Pc, CDM, and safety-zone outputs.

Requirements

• Experience building production data pipelines using Python, SQL, Spark, Glue, Databricks, Airflow, Step Functions, Data Factory, or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of object storage, Parquet, Delta/Iceberg, relational databases, and batch/streaming architectures.
• Ability to design reproducible data systems with quality checks, schema validation, lineage, and run metadata.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with orbital data, telemetry, geospatial data, sensor data, or scientific computing is highly desirable.
