About the Position

Data Science Manager

We are seeking a Data Science Manager to join Angstrom Sports, a proprietary sports pricing and product provider within the Entain group. This role is pivotal in managing sport-specific modelling teams and driving advanced pricing and risk capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Resource Planning: Optimize departmental objectives and tasks in ongoing projects.
• Team Management: Manage, coach, and develop Data Science Leads across multiple teams.
• Model Development: Support Leads in planning, prioritization, and delivery of high-quality forecasting models.
• Technical Standards: Help set and maintain high standards in technical practices, code, and documentation.
• Capacity Management: Identify and address capacity, capability, or performance challenges.
• Collaboration: Work with Delivery and Engineering to maintain efficient team operations.
• Strategy Development: Collaborate with the Head of Data Science to shape department-wide strategy, tooling, and hiring plans.
• Innovation: Facilitate cross-team learning, innovation, and sharing of best practices.
• Escalation Point: Act as an escalation point for technical or resourcing issues.
• Representation: Represent the Data Science function in cross-departmental discussions or leadership meetings.
• Culture Maintenance: Help maintain a collaborative, supportive, and high-performance culture.

Requirements

Essential

• Proven success in managing Data Science Leads and growing high-performing teams.
• Skilled in aligning delivery across multiple projects, sports, or technical domains.
• Strong technical background in model development and deployment.
• Advanced programming experience (R/Python/C#/Java).
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Proven ability to manage hiring, performance, and team development.
• Familiar with cross-functional planning, prioritization, and capacity management.
• Champions a culture of collaboration, experimentation, and delivery.
• Domain expertise in sports modelling or betting products.
• 2+ years managing teams and leading delivery across multiple modelling projects.

Desirable

• Experience building or scaling data science functions.
• Familiarity with model governance, risk, or compliance processes.
• Knowledge of tooling and infrastructure challenges across data and ML teams.
• Strategic thinking in resource allocation and modelling roadmaps.
• Passion for modelling excellence and deep awareness of current trends in applied data science.
• Experience using cloud services (AWS preferred).
• A degree (PhD, MSc, BSc) in a STEM subject or similar provable numerate and quantitative skills.
