About the Role

As a Data Scientist Applied AI, you will work directly with our clients: in workshops, in ongoing coordination with the Supply Chain, Finance, and Operations departments, and during on-site go-lives. Based on our DecisionOS Platform, you will develop solutions that do not just stay in the notebook but change the way our clients make decisions in their daily lives.

Responsibilities

You will manage client cases from a technical perspective: assessing requirements, evaluating feasibility, setting expectations – in direct coordination with the client's department.
You will lead the technical discussion with the client: explaining results in a way that resonates with the department, and making it transparent why a result looks the way it does.
You will configure and improve forecasting and optimization solutions on the DecisionOS Platform – from selecting the right capability to data integration and evaluation.
You will bring solutions into production and ensure they run stably and comprehensibly.
You will dive deep into customer data: data quality, impact chains, the right forecast drivers.
You will work AI-first: agents, LLMs, and agentic engineering are part of our toolkit, not just a gimmick.
You will shape the product roadmap and platform by recognizing what truly scales from a platform perspective.
You will engage in intensive discussions with Forward Deployed Engineers, Product, and Data Science – and mentor colleagues where your experience is beneficial.

Typical Application Areas

Replenishment & Inventory Optimization: from demand forecasting to automated order suggestions.
Demand Forecasting: identifying the right forecast drivers, configuration, evaluation against real business figures.
Setting up a Semantic Data Layer: building the data model and business logic at the client so that forecasts are accurate and evaluations are reliable.
Setting up Socrates: deploying our agent at the client – connecting to the semantic data layer, configuring, and evaluating the responses.

Requirements

At least three years of experience as a Data Scientist, with hands-on responsibility as the main focus.
Proficient in Python and SQL, familiar with pandas, polars, numpy, as well as sklearn, pytorch, xgboost, or similar.
Hands-on experience in modeling, ideally time-series forecasting.
You have not only trained but also deployed solutions.
Proficient in data analysis and data modeling, including preprocessing, cleaning, and exploratory data analysis.
Proficient in mathematical problem formulation and its solution.
You enjoy working directly with clients and can technically manage a client case: you lead the technical discussion, assess requirements, and explain results in a way that resonates with the department.
Curiosity about AI-supported work. Experience with LLMs and agents is a plus, willingness to learn is a must.
Fluent in German and English.
Bonus: Operations Research, Supply Chain / FMCG, ERP or planning systems, S&OP processes.

Setup

You will work in a hybrid setup: most of your time with the team in our Heidelberg office, in close collaboration with Product, Forward Deployed Engineers, and Data Science. Occasional on-site work at the client's location is also part of the role.
