We are seeking a Database Systems Engineer to manage and optimize our mission-critical databases in Prague, Czech Republic.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring secure, high-performance, and resilient database systems in continuous mission-critical operation
- Managing, tuning, and controlling databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle)
- Actively participating in the migration of databases to a unified PostgreSQL solution
- Developing and managing Ansible playbooks for automating database processes
- Implementing CI/CD pipelines for database tasks using Jenkins (e.g., deploying new versions and patches)
- Designing migration strategies for critical technology and data center migrations (LogShipping, Replication, Failover, Clustering, Active/Active)
- Working in a hybrid environment (virtual servers, Kubernetes containers, physical infrastructure)
- Implementing security standards and enhancing database security settings
- Solving operational tasks in Linux environments (RHEL), including permissions management, logging, and configuration adjustments
- Designing new methods for database management and presenting technological innovations
- Collaborating with technical teams in the supply chain
- Creating process documentation
- Actively participating in team ceremonies in an agile environment
- Participating in on-call mode - once every 5/6 weeks 17:00 - 09:00, (SLA 15min), compensated with a bonus
- Collaboration is conducted in a hybrid mode, with the possibility to work mostly remotely after onboarding
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with PostgreSQL design and management - targeting migration from MySQL, MariaDB, and Oracle
- Advanced experience with database automation tasks using Ansible
- Experience with CI/CD tool Jenkins (for database workflows)
- Hands-on experience with Linux environment (RHEL) administration
- Proven experience in successful collaboration with operational teams, network engineers, and developers
- Experience with agile/lean working methods
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Nice to Have
- Previous experience with MySQL, MariaDB, and Oracle
- Experience with database migration to a unified solution
- Advanced knowledge of the "Everything as Code" approach
- Deep architectural knowledge of database design in critical and regulated environments
- Experience with virtualization and bare-metal Linux ecosystems
- Knowledge of containerization concepts with Kubernetes
- Practical experience with database monitoring, logging, and alerting
- Knowledge of storage systems SAN/NAS/DAS/S3
