About the Position

We are seeking a Design Systems Lead (COMET) for our client, one of the world's largest natural resource companies. The role will focus on establishing and evolving a unified design system across an enterprise-grade Commodity Trading & Risk Management (CTRM) platform built on multiple micro-frontends.

The platform (COMET) requires a single accountable expert to define, govern, and scale a consistent UI layer across teams. The successful candidate will ensure that design and implementation remain fully aligned by owning the end-to-end design system lifecycle, from Figma design standards to front-end component implementation.

This is a senior, hands-on individual contributor role with no direct reports, requiring strong expertise in both UX systems design and front-end engineering practices. The individual will act as the key authority for UI consistency, reuse, and design governance across multiple development teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the enterprise design system including components, patterns, and design tokens
  • Define and manage versioning, documentation standards, contribution model, and deprecation lifecycle for UI assets
  • Improve and maintain the design token pipeline and ensure seamless design-to-code synchronization
  • Expand and govern Storybook as the canonical component library for the platform
  • Implement and enforce visual regression testing for UI consistency across releases
  • Define and enforce UI Definition of Done, ensuring reuse of existing components and tokens
  • Run intake, triage, and governance process ensuring teams prioritize reuse over duplication
  • Enforce design system compliance through code reviews, linting rules, and onboarding standards
  • Monitor, analyze, and report adoption metrics and UI drift to UX/UI Lead and Front-End Lead
  • Collaborate closely with design, engineering, and platform teams to ensure alignment between UX vision and implementation

Requirements

Must Have

  • Proven experience building and/or operating an enterprise-scale design system
  • Strong hands-on experience with Figma in a design system context
  • Deep knowledge of design tokens, token architecture, and design-to-code pipelines
  • Practical experience with Storybook and component library governance
  • Experience implementing or working with visual regression testing frameworks
  • Strong expertise in CSS/SCSS and scalable UI architecture patterns
  • Solid understanding of modern front-end engineering practices (micro-frontends is a plus)
  • Experience working in large-scale, multi-team enterprise environments
  • Ability to operate as a senior individual contributor with strong ownership mindset
  • Strong communication skills and ability to drive adoption across engineering teams
  • English: C1 Advanced

Nice to Have

  • Experience in data-dense enterprise applications (e.g., trading, finance, analytics platforms)
  • Hands-on engineering background in front-end development
  • Exposure to Angular-based enterprise applications
  • Experience working in or around micro-frontend architectures
  • Knowledge or exposure to backend systems in enterprise environments
  • Experience with AI-assisted development workflows or "agentic AI" tooling for engineering productivity
