About Nscale
Nscale is the vertically integrated AI cloud engineered for AI. We own and operate the full stack - energy, data centres, GPU superclusters, orchestration, and AI services - delivering high-performance infrastructure to AI-native companies, enterprises, and governments across Europe and the US. We are deploying GPU capacity at hyperscale, operating some of the densest, most advanced AI infrastructure in the world.
At Nscale, our Design & Construction team delivers the data center facilities that make AI at scale possible, purpose-built for the power density, availability, and speed our customers demand. We thrive on a culture of relentless innovation, ownership, and accountability, where every team member takes pride in their work and drives it with excellence and urgency. As an Nscaler, you'll build trust through openness and transparency, where everyone is inspired to do their best work. If you join our team, you'll be contributing to building the technology that powers the future.
About the Position
We are seeking a Director, Electrical Engineering – North America to join our team. This senior, hands-on leadership role is responsible for the electrical basis of design and engineering governance across Nscale's U.S. data center portfolio. You'll define MV/LV distribution architectures, electrical equipment strategy, and controls and monitoring interfaces for facilities purpose-built for high-density AI deployments.
Responsibilities
-
Technical Leadership and Design Ownership
- Lead concept, schematic, and detailed design reviews for new builds and expansions.
- Establish and maintain electrical design standards and reference architectures.
- Ensure designs meet availability, maintainability, efficiency, and safety targets.
- Provide engineering support through procurement, submittals, RFIs, field changes, and issue resolution.
- Lead reviews of short-circuit and arc flash studies.
- Implement lessons learned to improve reliability and maintainability.
-
Vendor, Consultant, and Team Leadership
- Select and manage architectural and engineering consultants.
- Enforce quality and documentation standards.
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure electrical systems meet business and customer requirements.
- Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers.
-
Colocation Leasing Support
- Lead electrical technical due diligence for potential colocation sites.
- Review and validate landlord and operator documentation.
- Define and negotiate electrical lease exhibits and technical schedules.
- Evaluate fit for high-density AI workloads.
-
Site Acquisition Support
- Support early-stage site screening by defining electrical utility and constructability requirements.
- Lead electrical due diligence for greenfield and brownfield acquisitions.
- Assess site constraints and risks that affect electrical design and delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 5+ years of electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, with significant time in data center design.
- 3+ years of engineering leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of data center electrical systems and reliability concepts.
- Experience working with U.S. engineering firms, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and state and local code variations.
- Strong presence and decision-making capability.
- Pragmatic, risk-based leadership style suited to fast-paced construction environments.
- Ability to challenge delivery teams constructively while maintaining strong partnerships.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing for high-density AI or HPC deployments.
- Owner-side experience at a hyperscaler, neocloud, or data center developer.
- Experience with utility interconnection, on-site substations, or behind-the-meter power solutions.
- Experience negotiating technical terms in colocation or wholesale data center leases.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Why this role matters
Power is the defining constraint in AI infrastructure, and every Nscale facility in North America depends on getting the electrical design right the first time. As the owner of our electrical basis of design, you'll set the standards that determine how quickly, safely, and reliably we can bring GPU capacity online. Success means repeatable reference designs that compress delivery timelines, sharper diligence on every site and lease we pursue, and an engineering team built to scale with our U.S. footprint.
We Offer
- Highly competitive package, including base salary and equity, with reviews every 12 months.
- Join one of the fastest-growing tech startups.
- Dynamic progression plan tailored to your ambitions.
- Human-first flexibility with a remote-first approach.
- Join our thriving remote-first team.
Salary Range
$170,000 - $260,000 USD
