Job Description, Responsibilities & Requirements
About the Position
Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human
Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.
This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.
Director, Internal Communications
Location: San Francisco, CA
Build the narrative-and the voice-that powers Okta.
We’re looking for a Director of Internal Communications to lead how Okta informs, aligns, and inspires its global workforce-while shaping the voice of our most senior leaders.
This is a high-impact leadership role at the center of the company-at a defining moment. The AI platform shift is reshaping every company and every industry, and Okta is all-in. That means defining the internal narrative and ensuring our employees understand where we’re going, why it matters, and what it means for them.
Why this role is different
Okta is making a deliberate choice: to move faster, compete aggressively, and go all-in on becoming the company that secures AI at global scale-the blueprint for the secure agentic enterprise. You’ll define the company’s internal narrative centered on how Okta secures AI and ensure it is consistently and authentically carried by our leadership. You’ll create the drumbeat that reinforces it-turning complex strategy into clear, memorable, and actionable messaging. And you'll make sure that how we communicate internally reflects the same urgency, boldness, and ownership we're asking of every employee.
This role isn't for someone who wants to maintain the status quo. It's for someone who sees this moment for what it is: a chance to help lead one of the most consequential platform shifts since the internet and to build the internal narrative that brings an entire company along for the ride.

- Shape the narrative: Translate Okta’s strategy into clear, compelling messaging employees understand and remember
- Create the drumbeat: Build a consistent, repeatable cadence that moves beyond one-off announcements
- Own channels & content: Oversee internal channels (Slack, intranet, email) and ensure precision in audience targeting and reach
- Deliver moments that matter: Lead Company All Hands and executive forums-from narrative through production and delivery
- Drive engagement: Design modern, multi-channel strategies that foster dialogue, connection, and understanding
Critical Moments & Enterprise Alignment
- Lead in critical moments: Partner with Corporate Communications on crisis, issues, and high-stakes communications
- Ensure internal-first alignment: Eliminate disconnects between internal and external messaging so employees are informed and prepared
- Drive clarity at scale: Ensure a small number of critical messages are consistently reinforced across channels and leaders.
Requirements
- 15+ years in internal, corporate, and/or executive communications with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Proven experience interacting with C-suite leaders
- Experience leading communications through large-scale transformation in complex, global organizations
- Exceptional storytelling and writing skills-you make the complex simple, clear, and memorable

- A modern approach to engagement, channels, and employee experience
- Experience in technology or SaaS environments preferred
