About the Position
Director of Engineering – Digital Platforms & Architecture
As a Director of Engineering, you will make an impact by leading delivery management, client engagement, and cloud-based solution architecture for a strategic financial services client. You will be a valued member of the Digital Engineering team and work collaboratively with client stakeholders, product owners, architects, scrum masters, onshore and offshore delivery teams, and third-party vendors.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary onshore point of contact for client management, supporting delivery outcomes and stakeholder alignment.
- Manage end-to-end delivery across onshore and offshore teams, including delivery planning, execution, issue resolution, and governance.
- Lead and review cloud-based solution designs prepared by application architects, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned to business needs.
- Guide proof-of-concept initiatives within the Digital Architect POD, partnering with offshore teams to develop, validate, and demonstrate solutions.
- Provide directions to onshore points of contact, offshore scrum masters, architects, and delivery teams to support effective execution across larger PODs.
- Coordinate with business product owners and third-party vendors, including AWS solution architects and external technology partners, to support integrated delivery.
- Drive new initiatives, including opportunities to leverage AI tools, engineering best practices, DevOps automation, observability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 19+ years of strong experience in delivery management for complex technology programs, including oversight of distributed onshore and offshore teams.
- Experience leading architects, scrum masters, and cross-functional engineering teams in the delivery of scalable, secure, and resilient distributed systems.
- Hands-on understanding of cloud-based solution architecture, preferably using AWS services.
- Experience overseeing API design, integration, governance, throttling, and lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of frontend architecture using React, with a focus on performance, maintainability, and engineering standards.
- Ability to collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders, architects, vendors, and delivery teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Experience conducting design reviews, code reviews, production troubleshooting, and technical governance across complex enterprise environments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to guide teams and influence delivery outcomes.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting financial services clients or highly regulated enterprise environments.
- Experience coordinating with third-party technology vendors and participating in solution discussions with external partners.
- Exposure to AI tools, automation initiatives, or innovation programs that improve delivery efficiency and engineering outcomes.
- Experience mentoring senior technical team members and enabling delivery maturity across multiple PODs.
- Strong understanding of DevOps automation, testing practices, observability, security, and performance best practices.
We Offer
- Salary and compensation: The annual salary for this position will be between $120,000 to $220,000 per year depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
