About the Position

Director of Engineering (m/w/d)

As Director of Engineering (m/w/d) you are responsible for managing a team of over 180 developers. This includes tech leads who are experts in iOS, Android, Flutter, Fullstack Java, Fullstack JavaScript and Fullstack .NET. You will play a crucial role in the success of our projects and ensure that high-quality digital solutions are developed for clients. This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise and a deep understanding of modern development technologies and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Team leadership: Mentoring and guiding a large team of software developers and tech leads to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement
  • Project Management: Working closely with clients, project managers, product owners and interdisciplinary teams to ensure adherence to timelines, budgets and quality standards to ensure successful project delivery
  • Technical expertise: Leading and guiding engineering teams and tech leads, solving technical challenges and ensuring scalable and efficient development techniques are used
  • Resource allocation: Supporting the efficient allocation of resources within the development team, optimizing productivity and identifying staffing needs, and participating in hiring decisions
  • Technology strategy: Develop and lead a technology roadmap, taking into account emerging trends and business requirements, and evaluate and recommend appropriate tools, frameworks and libraries to maintain and improve efficiency and quality standards
  • Quality Assurance: Define and implement quality assurance processes and automation strategies in collaboration with the QA teams to deliver robust, reliable and user-friendly applications
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Central interface between the development team, tech leads, other departments and customers to foster effective communication and collaboration, understand requirements, provide technical insights and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of innovation by staying on top of industry-wide trends, identifying opportunities to improve development methods and driving process optimization
  • Tech Lead Management: Supporting and guiding tech leads in their development to ensure successful team leadership
  • Performance Management: Defining performance expectations and providing regular feedback to Tech Leads to ensure high quality work and effective team management

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, software engineering or a similar field
  • Practical experience (at least 8 years) in software development (mobile and/or frontend/backend)
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in managing large teams of software developers and tech leads
  • Understanding of software development principles, frameworks and technologies
  • Solid project management skills and experience in successful project delivery
  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to drive development forward
  • High level of initiative, motivation and flexibility
  • Proficiency in written and spoken German to at least C1 level
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English to at least B2 level
