About the Position

Black & Veatch is seeking an experienced EHV (345kV +) Engineering Specialist with 8-10 years’ experience to join our Electrical team. The ideal candidate has significant working experience and knowledge of EHV Power Systems including upfront planning, design, testing, and commissioning of EHV substations and transmission lines.


Responsibilities

  • Function as a technical specialist encompassing EHV transmission level voltage classes.
  • Make EHV engineering calculation recommendations to influence risk mitigation through project execution plans.
  • Communicate EHV engineering calculation capabilities to internal and external clients to support project capture and development.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to develop, maintain, and update EHV engineering standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and standards.
  • Independently apply knowledge and follow Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of both personal work and that of team members.
  • Promote and uphold Black & Veatch’s Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) standards.
  • Communicate client goals and priorities to project teams, developing strategies to integrate these drivers into complex project execution.
  • Engage directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure alignment and successful project delivery.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership by mentoring team members and offering technical direction across disciplines.
  • Lead project efforts, including schedule, budget, and resource management.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to manage and deliver complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Support proposal development including scope of work, level of work, engineering estimates, and schedules.
  • Manage or contribute to multiple high-impact projects simultaneously.
  • Develop clear, concise written communications and facilitate effective collaboration with team members and clients.
  • Utilize knowledge in NERC reliability regions such as PJM, ERCOT, MISO.

Requirements

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • 8-10 years of experience performing EHV engineering planning and design for substations and transmission lines.
    • Experience performing EHV engineering calculations.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
    • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
    • Professional Engineer License (U.S. PE), preferred.
