About the Position
Electronics Controls Systems Engineer - Automotive
As an Electronics Controls Systems Engineer, you will join our Peterborough team to support our activities within the Automotive sector. This role focuses on the design, development, integration, and validation of electrical and electronic control systems, including subsystem architecture, cabling and wiring design, embedded control integration, and communication networks.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical and electronic control systems for complex engineering applications
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and subsystem architectures using Creo Schematics
- Support control systems design and integration activities across embedded and electrical systems
- Develop and integrate electrical subsystems, including sensors, actuators, controllers, and communication interfaces
- Define and manage cabling layouts, wiring architectures, and power/signal distribution systems
- Support Ethernet-based communication systems and vehicle/machine network integration
- Collaborate with software, systems, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure seamless system integration
- Participate in system validation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities
- Support Model-in-the-Loop (MiL), Software-in-the-Loop (SiL), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing activities where applicable
- Manage Electrical Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering changes, and configuration control
- Ensure compliance with electrical standards, EMC requirements, grounding principles, and safety regulations
- Produce technical documentation, design reports, and release documentation
Requirements
Required Skills:
- Strong background in electronics controls systems and electrical integration.
- Experience with MATLAB / Simulink for model-based design and code generation.
- Knowledge of MiL, SiL, and HiL validation processes.
- Proficiency in electrical schematic tools such as Creo Schematics and Visio.
- Understanding of subsystem integration, interfaces, signal integrity, and power distribution.
- Experience with BOM management and engineering change processes.
- Knowledge of electrical standards, EMC, grounding, and safety compliance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or related discipline.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in calibration and commissioning of control systems.
- Familiarity with CANbus, PLCs, industrial automation, or mobile machinery systems.
- Experience within regulated sectors such as Automotive or Energy,
- Understanding of functional safety standards.
