About the Position

We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in Plymouth. This role involves developing software for advanced embedded and real-time applications within a highly innovative engineering environment. You will contribute throughout the software lifecycle, supporting system integration, verification activities, and the delivery of high-quality software solutions.

Location: Plymouth

On-site Requirement: 3 Days Per Week

Seniority: 5+ Years Experience

Security Clearance: Candidates must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software applications.
  • Support software architecture, coding, testing, and verification activities.
  • Integrate software with hardware platforms and wider system architectures.
  • Debug and optimise software performance across target environments.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation and design artefacts.
  • Collaborate with systems, electronics, and test engineering teams.

Requirements

Required Skills

  • Proven experience developing embedded software using C and/or C++ within complex engineering environments.
  • Experience working with Linux-based or real-time operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design principles, and lifecycle development processes.
  • Experience integrating software with hardware platforms and supporting system-level integration activities.
  • Knowledge of software verification, validation, debugging, and performance optimisation techniques.

Soft Skills & Collaboration

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high engineering standards.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Strong technical documentation and review capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, or relevant technical military background with equivalent experience.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience using Git or similar version control tools.
  • Knowledge of sensor integration and data processing applications.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience working within requirements-driven engineering environments.
