Job Description, Responsibilities & Requirements

About the Position

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of experience in Python, AWS, and cloud-native stack to join our financial services team in the UK. This role involves building scalable APIs and deploying them on a cloud-native stack (EKS, Terraform).

This initiative is a strategic transformation program within a leading financial services organization, aimed at shifting from traditional file-based data distribution (PDF, CSV, XML via SFTP/portal) to a modern API-driven and AI-enabled data platform. The program introduces a new architecture based on APIs and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) façade, enabling:

  • Real-time, programmatic access to data
  • AI-driven and conversational data consumption
  • Elimination of fragile, file-based processes
  • Improved scalability, performance, and overall client experience

Responsibilities

  • Design and build data APIs (Python-based) exposing collateral and trade data
  • Develop and deploy services on AWS using EKS (Kubernetes) and containerized architectures
  • Implement infrastructure using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the MCP façade layer, enabling controlled, AI-driven access to APIs
  • Ensure APIs are secure, governed, deterministic, and auditable
  • Integrate APIs with Snowflake (Concorde data platform) and AWS data services (S3, etc.)
  • Collaborate with architecture, data, and platform teams to define API standards and best practices
  • Support test planning, execution, and member test readiness (documentation, onboarding materials)
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, architecture designs, and runbooks
  • Participate in Agile delivery (sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives)
  • Support deployment, monitoring, and rollout activities across environments
  • Ensure alignment with LSEG governance, security, and change management processes

Requirements

Technical

  • Strong experience in Python development (API design & build)
  • Hands-on experience with REST APIs and microservices architecture
  • Strong experience with AWS cloud services
  • Practical experience with containerization (Docker) and Kubernetes (EKS)
  • Experience using Terraform for infrastructure automation
  • Solid experience with SQL and Snowflake (or similar data platforms)
  • Experience working with data integration and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools (GitLab, CI/CD pipelines)

Architecture & Systems

  • Experience designing scalable, secure, and production-grade APIs
  • Understanding of data access governance and API-first architecture principles
  • Experience working with event/data-driven architectures
  • Ability to design systems ensuring deterministic and controlled data access

Development & Delivery

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Strong focus on quality, documentation, and delivery outcomes
  • Experience working in regulated or enterprise environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar AI integration layers
  • Exposure to AI/ML-driven data access or conversational interfaces
  • Experience with financial services / capital markets / clearing systems
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., DataDog)
  • Knowledge of SFTP/file-based legacy systems transformation

We Offer
