About the Position
Engineering Manager
Location: Oslo, Norway
A global technology-led organisation in the energy sector is seeking an Engineering Manager to build and lead a key engineering department in Oslo. This is a senior role combining team leadership, architecture, and product collaboration, with significant influence over both technical direction and organisational growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and scale a team of 20+ engineers
- Act as a technical authority, contributing to and reviewing architecture and system design decisions
- Drive engineering strategy and roadmap planning alongside product and business stakeholders
- Collaborate across the organisation and with end users to shape new features, POCs, and product direction
- Establish strong engineering practices, hiring standards, and team structures
- Build a culture of technical credibility, ownership, and continuous improvement
Requirements
- Background as a Senior or Staff-level Software Engineer, ideally within backend and distributed systems
- Experience managing teams of 10+ engineers, covering hiring, development, and performance
- Ability to operate as a software architect, guiding technical decisions and long-term strategy
- Familiarity with modern cloud-based stacks, ideally including:
- TypeScript / Node.js
- C# / .NET
- Kubernetes
- Kafka
- PostgreSQL
- MS Azure
- Experience working with mixed teams of permanent staff and consultants
- Comfortable adopting AI-assisted development practices
- Experience within energy, oil & gas, or similar technical domains is beneficial
