About the Position

Environmental Affairs Adviser (S)

The Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA) is seeking an Environmental Affairs Adviser to support its activities and the development, implementation, and coordination of projects in the area of transboundary natural resource management and environmental governance. This role involves working closely with regional and local OSCE executive structures and other international actors to contribute to policy advice and capacity-building workshops and events.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and coordinate environmental projects in line with OSCE project management standards.
  • Identify needs and priorities, ensuring alignment with national and regional policies.
  • Organize meetings, technical events, trainings, and conferences.
  • Establish and maintain target-oriented working relations with international and regional organizations, initiatives, business partners, and NGOs.
  • Represent OCEEA at relevant meetings and events, analyzing environmental developments.
  • Contribute to OCEEA policy and dialogue processes by preparing inputs, drafting speeches, statements, presentations, and briefing materials.
  • Collect and analyze environmental and social data and prepare reports, papers, and other written outputs.
  • Promote synergies with OCEEA's other programs and liaise with the secretariat's other departments and OSCE structures.
  • Mobilize and maintain funding for environmental activities.
  • Enhance visibility of OCEEA activities by preparing outreach materials and supporting events.

Requirements

  • Second-level university degree in Environmental Science, Economics, International Relations, or Political Sciences, with a focus on environmental security issues.
  • A minimum of five years (seven years with a relevant first-level degree) of professional experience, preferably at the international/multilateral level.
  • Working experience in diplomatic service and in an international organization would be an important asset.
  • Familiarity with the OSCE regions, in particular Central Asia, South Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe, or South Caucasus.
  • Professional fluency in English, with excellent communication and drafting skills; knowledge of another OSCE language, in particular Russian, would be an important asset.
  • Recognized project management certification would be an asset.

Nice to Have

  • Analytical skills and experience in developing policy briefs and analysis.
  • Demonstrated gender and diversity awareness and sensitivity.
  • Ability to establish and maintain external partnerships and effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds whilst remaining impartial and objective.
  • Computer literate with practical experience in Microsoft applications.

About the Company

The OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) is a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic, and environmental, and human aspects. It addresses a wide range of security-related concerns, including arms control, human rights, combating human trafficking, democratization, policing strategies, counter-terrorism, and economic and environmental activities. The OSCE Secretariat in Vienna assists the Chairpersonship in its activities and provides operational and administrative support to the field operations and, as appropriate, to other institutions.
