Field Engineer & Military Liaison

About the Position

Edge Run is a Western hardware company that creates power exoskeletons for Ukrainian frontline units. Currently, this is a system for supporting the lower back and pelvis.

Edge Run is opening its operational activities in Kyiv and is hiring its first hardware engineer-a person who will be responsible for the workplace, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and technical readiness of each device that reaches the military.

This is one of the first key hires for the Ukrainian team. You will set up the laboratory, determine how Edge Run tests and diagnoses devices, and over time, you may become the technical support for a small engineering team in Kyiv.

Responsibilities

• Establish and develop relationships with operational units involved in Edge Run trials: contact persons, commanders, end users, and people who directly set up and wear the device.
• Spend a significant amount of time in units and at training grounds: deliver and set up equipment, conduct short training sessions, and observe real-world device usage.
• Build and be responsible for the feedback collection process: what questions to ask after a field session, how to record answers, and how to turn them into tasks for the engineering team.
• Diagnose problems in the field: distinguish between user error and configuration/landing issues or real hardware malfunctions, and clearly communicate the problem to the team working with the devices on the workplace.
• Represent Edge Run on the ground: in interactions with brigades, military medics, contacts from the Ukrainian military-technological ecosystem, and partner funds.
• Regularly provide the engineering team with written, structured feedback: what the military complains about, what they ignore, and what they ask for.

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant experience. The two types of profiles that fit best are: a technically proficient engineer with strong communication skills; a recently demobilized officer or sergeant with technical education or experience in communications, UAVs, or EW.

• Comfortable interaction with frontline units: previous service, experience working with a military unit, or a well-formed understanding of how to deal with soldiers and commanders.
• Sufficient technical literacy to read a basic electrical circuit, recognize typical malfunctions, and clearly explain a technical problem to both the military and the engineer.
• Native Ukrainian and working English at the B1+ level: written reports will be sent to a team that does not speak Ukrainian.
• Excellent written communication: field notes must be clear and practical enough for engineers to act without an additional call.
• Willingness and ability to travel around Ukraine, including periodically visiting high-risk areas.
• Residence in Kyiv or willingness to relocate. On days without assignments-office work.

Nice to Have

• Team experience as an officer or sergeant in a combat or combat support role since 2022.
• Existing trusted relationships with operational units.
• Experience conducting training, courses, or technical equipment transfer to military users.
• Familiarity with the Ukrainian military-technological ecosystem, particularly Brave1, Defence Builder, Veteran Hub, as well as procurement and testing processes in this field.
