Financial Controller

About the Position

We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join our partner, an international retail company with over 1600 stores, in Bucharest. As the Financial Controller, you will lead our financial operations and play a key role in shaping the company’s financial strategy.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze key financial metrics, variance analysis, and management reports to guide decision-making.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial performance to senior management and stakeholders.
• Lead the annual budgeting process, including forecasting and re-forecasting as needed.
• Analyze variances between actual results and budgets, and propose corrective actions.
• Support department heads in managing their budgets and understanding financial performance.
• Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including tax filings, financial audits, and corporate governance standards.
• Coordinate and manage external audits and liaise with external auditors.
• Oversee cash flow management, ensuring the company meets liquidity requirements and optimizes cash utilization.
• Manage working capital, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory turnover to maximize cash flow efficiency.
• Monitor and analyze retail-specific KPIs, including gross margins, product profitability, and inventory levels.
• Collaborate with merchandising, procurement, and sales teams to ensure financial alignment with retail operations.
• Track promotional costs, markdowns, and sales performance to ensure profitability goals are met.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiency improvements.
• Monitor expenses and implement cost-control measures to ensure the business operates within its financial targets.
• Support pricing decisions and evaluate the financial impact of promotional activities.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in financial management roles, preferably in a retail or consumer goods environment.
• Knowledge of Romanian, English, and Russian/Ukrainian languages.
• Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Strong experience with accounting systems, ERP platforms (such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite), and financial reporting tools.
• Proactive, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
• High level of integrity and ethical standards.
