About the Position

Finanzbuchhalterin (m/w/d)

Munich

About Us

Helsing is a company in the field of defense AI. Our mission is to protect our democracies. We strive for technological leadership so that open societies can continue to make sovereign decisions and determine their own ethical standards.

As democracies, we see ourselves as having a special responsibility to carefully examine the development and use of powerful technologies such as AI. We take this responsibility very seriously.

We are an ambitious and dedicated team of engineers, AI specialists, and customer-oriented program managers. We are looking for people who are excited about our mission to strengthen our European teams – and to use their skills to solve the most complex and consequential problems. We maintain an open and transparent culture that expressly welcomes constructive debates about the use of technology in the defense sector, its benefits, and its ethical implications.

The Role

As a Finanzbuchhalterin (m/w/d), you are the backbone of our financial reporting and take full responsibility for the raw balance sheet, complex reconciliations, and the monthly closing cycle. You are a practice-oriented expert who ensures the integrity of our financial data, ensures a flawless balance sheet, and ensures compliance with all relevant accounting standards. With minimal supervision, you drive the continuous improvement of our financial processes.

Daily Tasks

  • Responsibility and control of the closing processes at the end of the month, quarter, and year to ensure that all deadlines are met and the accounts are correct
  • Creation and posting of complex, value-relevant general ledger entries, including subjective allocations, allocated sales, prepayments, and intercompany transactions
  • Conducting and reviewing critical balance sheet reconciliations, as well as independently investigating and resolving discrepancies
  • Managing group internal accounting, including transfer pricing adjustments, loan agreements, and multi-currency reconciliations
  • Assisting in the preparation of the consolidated financial statements and regulatory filings in accordance with local accounting standards (HGB) and IFRS
  • Continuously evaluating and optimizing general ledger processes, chart of accounts, and financial systems to increase efficiency and automate manual tasks
  • Ensuring strict adherence to internal controls, SOX compliance, and financial policies across the company

Who You Are

  • A qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, or equivalent) with at least 5–7 years of professional experience after completing your qualification and proven success in a complex, multi-entity general ledger environment
  • An exceptionally well-organized, practice-oriented expert who can handle the entire closing process independently with minimal supervision
  • Possess a deep and comprehensive understanding of accounting principles (HGB and IFRS) and statutory reporting requirements
  • Extensive experience with enterprise-wide ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Workday) and creating advanced financial models in Excel
  • A keen eye for detail to ensure that the balance sheet is always fully documented, reconciled, and error-free
  • Excellent time management skills and a proven ability to prioritize tasks under pressure during tight closing cycles

Note: We operate in an industry where women and other minorities are systematically underrepresented. We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet all the listed qualifications; abilities and impact cannot be summarized in a few bullet points.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with ERP migrations, system upgrades, or the implementation of specialized modules (e.g., asset management, inventory tracking, or automated reconciliation tools)
  • Familiarity with RPA tools (Robotic Process Automation) or basic scripting languages (such as VBA or Python) for automating repetitive month-end tasks
  • Experience in a multi-entity and multi-currency environment and knowledge of foreign exchange accounting and intercompany transactions
  • Proven track record of identifying inefficiencies in financial processes and successfully implementing process improvement initiatives (e.g., reducing the month-end close cycle)

Join Helsing and Work with World-Leading Experts in Their Fields

  • Working at Helsing is important. You directly contribute to protecting democratic countries, considering both ethical and geopolitical concerns
  • The work is unique. We operate in a field that presents highly unusual technical requirements and constraints, where robustness, security, and ethical considerations are critical. You will face unique challenges in engineering and AI that have a significant impact on the world
  • Our work often takes us to the cutting edge of the state of the art, whether in the field of reinforcement learning, distributed systems, generative AI, or deployment infrastructure. The defense industry is in the most exciting phase of its technological development curve. Advances in our field are not incremental: Helsing is part of historic leaps forward and often even pioneers them
  • In our field, success is a matter of orders of magnitude improvements and novel capabilities. This means we take risks, aim high, and focus on big opportunities. Although Helsing is a relatively young company, it has already been selected for several significant government contracts
  • We actively promote a healthy, proactive, and diverse debate about what we do and how we do it internally. Teams and individual engineers are trusted (and encouraged) to practice responsible autonomy and critical thinking, focusing on results rather than conformity. At Helsing, you have a say in how we (and you!) work, the opportunity to engage with what works and what doesn't, and the responsibility to take ownership of aspects of our culture that matter to you
