About the Position

Fractional CTO - Pre-Sale & Solutioning

Engagement: Hourly / part-time, ongoing (not full-time) | Remote

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on technologist to join our pre-sale process as a Fractional CTO. You'll be the technical voice in conversations with prospective clients - able to discuss architecture, engineering trade-offs, and delivery approaches credibly, and to translate business needs into a compelling, feasible technical solution. This is a flexible, hourly engagement rather than a full-time role: we'll bring you in for specific pre-sale calls, proposals, and - where needed - the early stages of a project's kickoff.

Responsibilities

• Join pre-sale calls and discovery sessions with prospective clients as the senior technical counterpart
• Ask the right technical questions to uncover real requirements, constraints, and risks
• Propose and articulate technical solutions and high-level architecture tailored to the client's needs
• Estimate scope, effort, and technical risk in collaboration with the sales and delivery teams
• Help shape technical sections of proposals, SOWs, and RFP responses
• Build client confidence by demonstrating technical depth and credibility during the sales cycle
• Optionally, stay engaged into project kickoff to support a smooth handover to the delivery team

Requirements

• 8+ years in software engineering, with several years in a CTO, VP Engineering, Solutions Architect, or similar senior technical leadership role
• Proven track record of designing and communicating technical solutions to non-technical and technical stakeholders alike
• Broad, hands-on knowledge across modern architectures, cloud platforms, and engineering practices - comfortable working across different tech stacks and industries, since our clients span multiple domains
• Strong pre-sale or client-facing experience: comfortable leading technical conversations directly with prospects
• Ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into clear technical scope and estimates
• Strong awareness of current AI software development trends (AI-assisted coding, agentic workflows, LLM-based tooling) and how they impact solution design and estimates
• Hands-on experience using AI tools in the development process (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) to speak credibly about efficiency gains and modern delivery practices
• Excellent communication skills in English; confident presenting to executives and technical teams
• Available on a flexible, as-needed hourly basis to support pre-sale calls on short notice

Nice to Have

• Prior experience as a fractional or advisory CTO for multiple companies simultaneously
• Experience supporting project kickoffs or early delivery phases after a deal closes
• Background in a software development agency, consultancy, or outsourcing environment

Engagement Format

• Hourly / part-time - billed per call or per engagement, not a fixed full-time commitment
• Cross-domain - our clients come from a variety of industries, so no specific domain background is required
• Occasional extension into the early stage of a project (kickoff support) when needed
