Frontend Tech Lead (Platform) in Barcelona
At Caravelo, we are revolutionizing the travel industry by helping airlines build recurring relationships with their customers. We are looking for a Frontend Tech Lead to help shape how frontend engineering evolves at Caravelo.
Responsibilities
-
Build and evolve the frontend platform:
- Build and improve shared frontend capabilities used across Caravelo.
- Help evolve the design system and component foundations.
- Improve the developer experience around local development, CI/CD, testing, and deployment.
- Keep the current frontend architecture healthy as new features and product lines are added.
- Make pragmatic architectural decisions without introducing unnecessary complexity.
-
Lead the frontend practice:
- Define and evolve architecture conventions.
- Facilitate RFCs and technical decision-making.
- Raise the quality and consistency of code reviews.
- Help establish clear frontend engineering standards.
- Run or contribute to the frontend guild.
- Mentor other frontend engineers and help them become more autonomous.
-
Improve reliability, testing, and observability:
- Strengthen E2E testing and regression coverage.
- Improve monitoring and alerting.
- Enhance performance visibility.
- Improve production debugging and troubleshooting.
- Increase confidence in releases and changes.
-
Improve communication across teams:
- Improve visibility into frontend work and technical decisions.
- Document architecture, patterns, and shared capabilities.
- Enhance collaboration between Platform, Product, and Professional Services.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing.
- Follow-up on architectural decisions to ensure they become practice.
-
Use AI to accelerate without creating chaos:
- Use AI tools to accelerate implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation.
- Encourage reusable workflows and consistent patterns.
- Help engineers review and challenge AI-generated code.
- Use specifications and clear technical intent to guide AI-assisted development.
- Prevent speed from becoming an excuse for duplication or poor engineering judgment.
Requirements
Must have:
- Strong professional experience building modern frontend applications, with excellent engineering fundamentals.
- Experience leading technical decisions, architecture discussions, and code review practices in a frontend environment.
- Deep experience with Vue 3 and its ecosystem.
- Experience improving reliability through testing, observability, performance work, and production debugging.
- Ability to mentor other engineers, communicate technical decisions clearly, and influence without relying on hierarchy.
- Pragmatic judgment: you know when to improve architecture, when to keep things simple, and when not to build something at all.
Nice to have:
- Experience with Nuxt meta-framework.
- Experience working with design systems and shared component libraries.
- Experience with monorepos, developer tooling, and frontend CI/CD.
- Experience with Playwright, Vitest, or similar testing frameworks.
- Experience with Datadog or similar monitoring and observability tools.
- Experience leading or shaping frontend practices across multiple teams.
Our Stack
- Vue 3
- Nuxt 4
- TypeScript
- Vitest
- Reka UI
- Turborepo
We Offer
- Competitive salary with a clear progression framework.
- Flexible working hours.
- Barcelona-based hybrid model: 4 days in the office and 1 day working from home.
- Tax-efficient benefits including private health insurance, restaurant and transport cards, and kindergarten support.
- Budget for training and conferences.
- Regular company events and celebrations.
- 23 days of annual leave.
- Meaningful influence over how frontend engineering evolves at Caravelo.
- A role where you can remain hands-on while shaping standards, architecture, and engineering practice.
Growth / Learning Opportunities
This role can grow in several directions depending on your strengths and interests. You may deepen your impact as a technical leader, take on broader platform responsibilities, or shape larger future frontend initiatives as they emerge.
Possible future areas include hybrid or native app experiences, further platform productization, and continued evolution of developer tooling and frontend reliability.
