Responsibilities

As the General Customs Manager, you will provide strategic, operational, and commercial leadership to SGS Maco's customs organization. You will be responsible for compliance, leveraging commercial opportunities, and guiding both the organization and clients in the transition to the new Customs Code of the Union (nDWU).

• Develop and implement the customs strategy with AEO as the foundation
• Translate the impact of nDWU into processes, IT, and client propositions
• Ensure compliance (UCC & national legislation) and permit management
• Manage import, export, and transit processes
• Advise clients and act as a sparring partner for stakeholders
• Initiate digitalization and process optimization

Requirements

• HBO/WO education level, preferably in logistics, supply chain, economics, or law, supplemented by a completed customs education (such as declarant or expert customs)
• Minimum of seven years of experience in customs processes, with at least three years in a managerial role
• Experience with AEO processes, permit management, and audits is a must
• Strong analytical skills combined with high risk awareness and the ability to make decisions effortlessly in complex situations
• Ability to balance strict compliance requirements with commercial interests to ensure solutions are both safe and business-oriented
• Affinity with IT systems and data-driven process improvement
• Excellent communication skills at all levels
• Fluency in Dutch and English
