Head of Software Engineering

About the Position

Join SQUER as Head of Software Engineering and lead our AI-native team in developing innovative software solutions. Located in Vienna, Austria, this full-time role offers a fair annual salary starting at € 95.000,- + variable Bonus, with the possibility of overpayment depending on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Development and implementation of a (growth) strategy for the business unit.
• Responsible for the operational business, including planning, implementing, and monitoring projects, budgets, and operational metrics.
• Identify market trends and customer needs and perform competitive analysis to adapt and evolve the service offerings.
• Build and nurture relationships with clients and partners to strengthen SQUER’s market presence and open new business opportunities.
• Monitor and analyze customer satisfaction to ensure long-term partnerships and continuous improvement.
• Lead, coach, and develop your team to enable high performance and sustainable growth.
• Promote a culture of collaboration, openness, and innovation to ensure successful company growth and development.
• Collaboration with other departments, such as other business units, sales, and marketing, to create synergies and ensure the achievement of company goals.

Requirements

• Strong background in software development, extensive experience with enterprise- and event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar), and a good understanding of how to integrate and migrate software systems (Strangler Fig, CDC, Micro Frontends, API design, etc.).
• Hands-on consulting experience and a strong track record in developing client relationships and driving business growth.
• Proven experience in planning, executing, and monitoring projects, budgets, and operational metrics.
• Passion for working with people and building long-term relationships with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders. You also understand your role as a mediator and have a problem-solver mindset.
• Charismatic leader with high empathy, a strong performance orientation, and excellent social skills.
• Actively use AI-powered tools (e.g., code assistants, LLM-based workflows) to amplify your productivity and quality - or you're eager to start.
• Excellent German and English language skills in both written and verbal communication.
