Job Description, Responsibilities & Requirements

About the Position

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking HMA Team Members for NTS/EORE activities in Syria with the DRC HDP Programme. The role focuses on explosive ordnance risk education and community liaison to support the safe return of communities and productive use of land.

Responsibilities

  • Explosive Ordnance Risk Education

    • Conduct direct and online EORE sessions for adults, adolescents, and children according to DRC HDP SOPs.
    • Support EORE Training of Trainers (TOT) for local stakeholders.
    • Assist in the development of EORE materials, methodologies, and tools.
    • Support procurement efforts and contribute to lessons learned reports on EORE activities.
    • Collect and report on EORE data accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Non-Technical Survey

    • Assist in the identification and assessment of hazardous areas.
    • Implement NTS processes in compliance with relevant SOPs and guidelines.
    • Collect data on hazard sightings, accidents, historical use of areas, and impact on communities.
    • Use equipment such as GPS, range finder, binoculars, and compass to map hazardous areas.
  • Planning, Coordination, and Context Analysis

    • Participate in the development of activity workplans.
    • Liaise with DRC HDP Humanitarian Demining, Victim Assistance, and other DRC sectors.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on the context, including Explosive Ordnance (EO) contamination.

Requirements

  • Essential:

    • Certificate/Accreditation of successful completion of NTS/EORE training course.
    • Knowledge of DRC internal MMC/BAC SOPs.
    • Knowledge of Mines and UXO encountered in Syria.
    • Excellent knowledge of topography and map drawing.
    • Basic knowledge of MS Office programs.
  • Desirable:

    • At least 1 year of proven previous experience in NTS and/or community liaison.

Education

  • Secondary/High school education

Languages

  • Fluent in Arabic and English.
