Full-time | Hospice & Palliative Medicine Physician

Munson Healthcare is seeking a committed and compassionate Hospice and Palliative Medicine Physician to join our expanding and well-established palliative care program in Traverse City, Michigan. This newly added physician position reflects continued growth of a robust, interdisciplinary service and offers a unique opportunity to help shape and further develop palliative and hospice care across the health system.

This role provides a dynamic and rewarding scope of practice spanning inpatient and outpatient palliative care, as well as active participation in Munson Hospice Care. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative clinician dedicated to high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals with serious illness and their families. You will join a team of experienced, supportive, and mission-driven physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary staff.

As this position represents expansion from a two-physician to a three-physician model, the schedule is evolving and will offer increased flexibility and improved balance compared to traditional block scheduling models. The role includes shared responsibility for palliative care and hospice call coverage, with expectations designed to support sustainability and physician well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Flexible Physician Scheduling Model

    • Collaborative scheduling approach within a growing three-physician team
    • Shared call responsibilities across inpatient palliative care and hospice services
    • Emphasis on flexibility, balance, and sustainability
  • Inpatient Palliative Medicine

    • Lead a high-acuity inpatient consult service at Munson Medical Center
    • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including two experienced Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) working four 10-hour shifts per week
    • Participate in shared call coverage, including weekends
  • Outpatient Palliative Care

    • Provide oversight and clinical collaboration with an established outpatient palliative care clinic
    • Work alongside three autonomous APPs and a licensed clinical social worker providing psychotherapy
    • Opportunity to expand and innovate outpatient palliative care services
  • Hospice Care Integration

    • Provide physician support and call coverage for Munson Hospice Care
    • Participate in and help lead hospice interdisciplinary team meetings (Wednesdays, 8am–10:30am)
    • Contribute to strengthening integration across inpatient, outpatient, and hospice settings
  • Education & Professional Development

    • Opportunity to participate in and co-lead live VitalTalk communication courses for clinicians in the community
    • Contribute to the continued expansion of a growing, system-wide palliative care program
    • Opportunities for leadership, program development, education, and quality improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Education / Training

    • MD or DO
  • Certification, Licensure, Registration

    • Board eligible/certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
    • Eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan
  • EHR

    • Oracle Health
