The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Humanitarian Mine Action Team in Syria. This role focuses on implementing Non-Technical Survey (NTS) and Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) activities to ensure community safety and facilitate the safe return of displaced persons.
Responsibilities
- Identification and Assessment: Conduct NTS to identify hazardous areas, enabling safe community return and productive land use.
- Marking of Contaminated Areas: Supervise the marking of contaminated areas to reduce casualties.
- Community Liaison: Engage with communities to maximize impact and ensure participation.
- EORE Sessions: Deliver EORE sessions to adults, adolescents, and children, supporting coordination, material development, and data management.
- Direct and Online Sessions: Conduct EORE sessions, assist in material development, and support community liaison efforts.
- Planning and Coordination: Participate in workplan development, field coordination, and context analysis.
- Implementation Support: Support EORE Training of Trainers (TOT), HMA workshops, and public events.
- Material Development: Assist in developing EORE materials, methodologies, and tools.
- Procurement Support: Support procurement efforts as needed.
- Quality Assurance: Cooperate in monitoring and quality assurance activities.
Requirements
Essential:
- Certificate/Accreditation of successful completion of NTS/EORE training course.
- Knowledge of DRC internal MMC/BAC SOPs.
- Knowledge of Mines and UXO encountered in Syria.
- Excellent knowledge of topography, map drawing, and basic handling of surveying tools.
- Understanding of contamination size and problems in Syria.
- Knowledge about MA stakeholders and partners in Syria.
- Knowledge of local communities.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office programs.
- Good organizational skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Excellent ability to work in a team.
Desirable:
- At least 1 year of proven previous experience in NTS and/or community liaison.
Education
- Secondary/High school education.
- HMA experience (desirable).
Languages
- English (fluent)
- Arabic (native)
