Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member - Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE)- Non-Technical Survey (NTS)*2

About the Position

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Humanitarian Mine Action Team in Syria, focusing on explosive ordnance risk education and non-technical survey activities. This role is crucial in ensuring the safe return of communities and productive use of land in conflict-affected areas.

Responsibilities

  • Identification and Assessment: Conduct non-technical surveys to identify and assess hazardous areas.
  • Marking of Contaminated Areas: Supervise the marking of contaminated areas to reduce casualties.
  • Community Liaison: Engage with local communities to maximize the impact of interventions.
  • EORE Sessions: Deliver explosive ordnance risk education sessions to adults, adolescents, and children.
  • Coordination and Planning: Assist in the planning and coordination of NTS/EORE activities.
  • Implementation: Implement NTS processes and EORE activities in compliance with DRC's SOPs and guidelines.
  • Communication: Maintain working relations with local authorities, communities, and security stakeholders.
  • Equipment Management: Ensure the equipment is in good condition and report any damage.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Certificate/Accreditation of successful completion of NTS/EORE training course.
  • Knowledge of DRC internal MMC/BAC SOPs.
  • Knowledge of mines and UXO encountered in Syria.
  • Excellent knowledge of topography and map drawing.
  • Understanding of contamination size and problems in Syria.
  • Knowledge about MA stakeholders and partners in Syria.
  • Knowledge of local communities.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office programs.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Excellent ability to work in a team.

Desirable:

  • At least 1 year of proven previous experience in NTS and/or community liaison.

Education

  • Secondary-High school education.
  • HMA experience (desirable).

Languages

  • Fluent written and spoken Arabic.
  • Working knowledge of English.
