About the Team
Toyota redefines the meaning of mobility. We move people, things, information, and energy, continuously challenging the conventional wisdom of mobility. In Woven City, we aim to produce mass happiness by creating and testing various types of mobility in a test course concept that is a human-centered city, a city of real experiments, and an unfinished city.
Woven City brings together diverse colleagues who share a vision for the future of mobility. Inventors, residents, and visitors will live and demonstrate various products and services in a test course shaped like a city where people, mobility, and social infrastructure are interconnected.
Toyota Woven City is a city being built on the foothills of Mount Fuji in Japan, aiming to be a connected ecosystem that utilizes renewable electricity and carbon-free energy (CFE) including hydrogen as its power source.
This team is responsible for launching and operating the hydrogen demonstration environment in Woven City, conducting demonstration experiments outside Woven City, collaborating with various stakeholders, and developing business models and strategies. After joining, you will report directly to the team leader or the Sub-Lead of the Hydrogen Product Management Energy team.

About the Role
We are looking for someone passionate about promoting hydrogen dissemination using the unique demonstration environment of Woven City.
As a Data Engineer for the Hydrogen Ecosystem Solutions team, you will be responsible for developing hydrogen-related software products.
We are recruiting engineers passionate about developing and operating hydrogen-related software products within and outside Woven City. Leveraging your practical experience and deep knowledge in data engineering, you will ensure the traceability of large amounts of data from various sources and maintain databases. You will also work closely with experts from various fields to ensure data usability for reporting, analysis, and software product development.
We are looking for someone with extensive data engineering experience, a strong sense of ownership, and an entrepreneurial spirit. A collaborative mindset is essential for working with various stakeholders across departments and external companies.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with various teams across departments, service project owners, third parties, and software/hardware engineers to define data pipeline and storage requirements
- Support the development of traceable data and API integration with related SW/HW applications to aid in the development of hydrogen-related software products
- Ensure data traceability (e.g., data sources, load/update timing)
- Ensure the quality and availability of data required for report generation and analysis
- Manage data pipelines and storage
- Define data architecture and perform necessary data cleansing and transformation
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in information engineering, data science, computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience
- 3-5 years of experience in data engineering and the ability to create database design documents
- Advanced expertise in data cleansing and building traceable and standardized format databases from large amounts of data from multiple sources
- Advanced expertise in designing data architecture, building data pipelines, and designing and maintaining reporting and analysis data warehouses
- Experience with cloud data storage solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure)
- Experience with APIs (REST) connecting backend and frontend systems to databases
- Business-level Japanese and advanced English proficiency (willingness to improve English skills)
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in information engineering, data science, computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience
- Experience in energy management systems or software product development for power systems
- Knowledge of data modeling methods (e.g., Data Vault 2.0)
- Experience in web application development using Python (Django, Flask, FastAPI, etc.) or Java (Spring, etc.) and database (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, etc.)
- Experience with control systems
- Experience with operational data systems/facility-related tasks
- Ability to learn new fields as needed
- Business-level English proficiency
