Indirect Tax Manager Nordics

British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiedler & Lundgren has an exciting opportunity for an Indirect Tax Manager – Nordics, based in Malmö.

We are looking for a new colleague to join our motivated Finance Team in Malmö and take ownership of Indirect Tax compliance and governance matters.

In this key role, you will be responsible for ensuring meaningful and sustainable implementation of BAT’s framework of indirect tax controls, processes and standards to ensure compliance with indirect tax legislation across the business. The role is responsible for delivery of all Swedish indirect tax compliance obligations, and for indirect tax governance and audit support in other Nordics markets.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering all external indirect tax compliance matters (Sweden only).
  • Ensuring robust controls, processes and governance are in place and consistently applied across customs, excise and VAT.
  • Delivering customs and excise management activities, including classification, licensing, documentation, governance and audit management.
  • Performing reviews, checks and audits to ensure adherence to Group policies, standards and controls, including tracking key performance metrics.
  • Delivery of accurate internal and external indirect tax reporting requirements (including support on factory-related reporting where relevant).
  • Acting as key contact for tax authorities, managing routine enquiries and supporting indirect tax audits.
  • Providing technical indirect tax advice and guidance to Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Legal and other business stakeholders.
  • Managing indirect tax risks, including assessment, reporting, forecasting of financial impact, provisioning and supporting disclosures.
  • Driving continuous improvement, system enhancements and digitisation of indirect tax processes, including acting as business owner for relevant system changes and supporting tax technology initiatives.
  • Comply and implement activities in accordance with the rules of laws and regulations relating to environmental protection, safety at work and fire protection, and internal EHS or Sustainability standards and procedures.

Requirements

  • Degree educated with relevant professional qualifications (accounting, legal or tax) and at least 5 years’ relevant experience in a complex, international tax or advisory environment, or tax authority.
  • Good technical knowledge of Swedish customs, excise and VAT, with solid understanding of relevant laws, regulations and compliance frameworks.
  • Proven experience in dealing with tax authorities, managing audits and defending tax positions effectively.
  • Ability to manage third-party partners and cross-functional stakeholders in complex, international environments.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to balance technical tax requirements with commercial and operational priorities.
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at different levels.
  • Strong project and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proactive, driven and detail-orientated, with the ability to challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvement.
