About the Position

Intern Data Science - Porto

Join Nitro's Engineering Team in Porto, Portugal. Collaborate with data engineers and scientists to develop machine learning solutions.

Responsibilities

• Help build a governed semantic layer that defines Nitro's core business metrics and entities, powering an AI data agent that lets teams ask questions of our data in plain language.
• Work with product, finance, and revenue teams to translate business definitions into clear, consistent data definitions.
• Write and test SQL and Python to model data in Snowflake and dbt, and check that metrics are accurate and match existing dashboards.
• Evaluate and improve the data agent's answers, designing test sets and measuring accuracy.
• Explore and build machine learning models on product usage and customer data, such as churn, conversion, or user behavior.
• Share your findings through clear write-ups, notebooks, or dashboards, and present them to the team.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Comfortable with Python (pandas, scikit-learn, or similar) and SQL.
• A good grounding in statistics and core machine learning concepts, and genuine enjoyment of working on ML problems.
• Interest in LLMs, AI agents, or semantic layers. Hands-on experience with tools like dbt, Snowflake, or LLM APIs is desired but not required.
• Curiosity about how businesses measure success, and care for getting the numbers right.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to explain technical work to non-technical people.
• Ability to work well in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
• Familiarity with version control systems (for example: Git).
