Job Description, Responsibilities & Requirements

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Internal Auditor to join our team in London. This role involves delivering audit and advisory activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of the risk-based annual internal audit plan
  • Independently lead and deliver end-to-end internal audits, including planning, fieldwork, testing, and reporting
  • Assess the design and operating effectiveness of controls across key risk areas (including financial crime, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance)
  • Produce clear, concise, and insightful audit reports with practical, risk-based recommendations
  • Present audit findings to senior management and, where required, relevant governance committees
  • Track and monitor agreed actions, validating timely and effective remediation of audit findings
  • Maintain complete and accurate audit documentation and working papers in line with internal standards
  • Identify emerging risks and control gaps through ongoing engagement with Risk and Compliance functions, while maintaining independence
  • Provide limited ad hoc advisory input where appropriate, without impairing audit independence
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders across the organisation

Requirements

  • Internal audit experience within an FCA-regulated financial institution, preferably within an Electronic Money Institution (EMI)
  • Proven ability to independently deliver end-to-end audits, including planning, fieldwork/testing, reporting, and follow-up of remediation actions
  • Strong understanding of EMI operations, including onboarding (CDD/KYC/KYB), ongoing monitoring, transaction processing, and safeguarding of client funds
  • Sound knowledge of applicable regulatory frameworks, including FCA Handbook requirements (e.g. CASS, SYSC, MLRs 2017, Payment Services Regulations, E-Money Regulations)
  • Experience in auditing financial crime frameworks, including AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud controls, and suspicious activity reporting processes
  • Understanding of safeguarding requirements, including segregation, reconciliation processes, and safeguarding controls under CASS 15
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of governance frameworks, including Board and committee oversight, the three lines model, and management information (MI)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate control design and operating effectiveness, identify root causes, and provide practical recommendations
  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements (e.g. safeguarding returns, financial crime reporting) and related control frameworks
  • Experience in tracking and validating remediation actions and assessing closure of audit findings
  • Awareness of FCA expectations regarding internal audit independence, proportionality, and effectiveness in smaller firms

Nice to Have

  • Professional qualifications (e.g. CIA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent) or working towards such qualifications preferred
  • Russian language knowledge (not mandatory)
  • FCA requests handling experience

Working Conditions

  • Part-time 10h weekly max/outsourcing contract
  • Fully remote
