About the Position
Join 3Shape as Intern in Clinical Research Project!
We are looking for a motivated dental student to conduct a research year working in a clinical research project conducted by 3Shape in collaboration with a private dental clinic (PI: Mia Byrel).
The project offers the opportunity to participate in a clinical investigation focused on the evaluation of emerging diagnostic technologies in dentistry. Likewise, you will get an opportunity to work across both industry and clinic.
Project Description
This study is designed as a post-market, prospective, real-world clinical investigation assessing the in vivo performance of the proximal caries detection functionality embedded in the Diagnostics Plus software, used in conjunction with the TRIOS 6 intraoral scanner.
Approximately 30 patients attending routine dental examinations and presenting with a history of proximal caries will be enrolled in the period September 2026 to February 2027.
The primary objectives are to:
- Evaluate the diagnostic performance of the technology in detecting proximal caries lesions
- Compare hyperspectral imaging findings with established reference modalities, including bitewing radiographs and transillumination (Diagnocam)
- Generate evidence and potentially publish the results in a peer-reviewed journal
Responsibilities
- Participation in clinical data and image acquisition
- Data management and documentation in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Support in study coordination and execution
- Contribution to data analysis and interpretation
- Opportunity to contribute to drafting a scientific manuscript for publication
Learning Outcomes

Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled in a dentistry program
- Have a strong interest in clinical research and evidence-based dentistry
- Demonstrate a high level of organization, attention to detail, and professionalism
- Possess proficient communication skills in Danish and English
- Have flexibility to possibly commute between different sites (Classensgade clinic and 3Shape office)
Project Period
September 2026 – June 2027
Employment Conditions
The research project will take place from September 2026 to June 2027. During this period, you will be hired as a paid intern, with expected working time around 30-37 hours.
During this period, the researcher will be supervised by:
- Principal Investigator (Clinical Supervisor): Mia Byrel (Tandlægerne Classensgade)
- Industry Supervisor: Marianne Mikkelsen, Head of Clinical Research (3Shape)
